Snow

If there is possible blizzards during my schedule, the snow from the blizzard could be a positive aspect for my film, rather than negative. It can add to the stylistics and mise-en-scene of my film, creating an atmospheree either making it more obvious to the thriller conventions, or to mislead the audience into a false sense of security within my film, which will contribute to the spectatorship and expectations during my film for the audience.

Screenplay / Script

I left some of the script in the screenplay open, and unfinished as I want some of the script improvised by my actors reaction. I think that leaving it open towards the end will only increase the climax of what's about to happen, to both the actors and the audience watching. This will also contribute to the conventions of my genre, as suspense and tension my rise.

Fade In:

 

1.EXT. EVENING.A FORRESTED AREA. ALL ACTION TAKES PLACE IN THIS SCENE.

 The woods are revealed by a panning shot. It’s dusk and the light is slowly fading, Callum, Courtney, Sophie and Kelsey are walking through a small forested area. We follow them with a tracking shot, with a close up of Courtney’s face.

KELSEY (WALKING. looking around)

          So what are we here to do?

COURTNEY (speedily walking, looking intently at the area and thinking)

Well, we’re here to go look at that abandoned campsite from a few months ago.

 

Courtney leads the rest of the group through the woods, to find an old, ruined tent.

COUTNEY (confidently leads her friends to a specific place within the forest. she seems impressed.)

I think it’s just up this way. I think this is where we were.

Here it is. This is where we were last time.

Sophie (warily glances around where she is, she’s uneasy about where they are)

Oh, it looks real weird, like, just strange.

 

 

2.EXT.LATER IN THE DAY. COURTNEY IS SAT IN THE WOODS CRYING. CALLUM TRIES TO CALM HER DOWN, MEANWHILE KELSEY REALISES SOPHIE HAS GONE MISSING.

 

Callum (rushing over to courtney, tries to comfort her as she’s sat crying)

Courtney, calm down a bit! We’ll leave, come on, let’s go.

Are you alright now?

 

Kelsey (confused, and alert)

Hang on, where’s Sophie gone?

 

CALLUM (panicking)

Sophie! Where are you?! Come back, this isn’t funny.

 

kelsey

Christ.

CALLUM (alarmed and quickly runs over to courtney)

Courtney. COURTNEY! WHAT YOU DOING!

Jesus. What even.

What are you doing kels?

KELSEY (moving around the bushes looking for sophie, she looks concerned as she thinks she’s something els. answers callum reluctantly) 

I’m just looking for Sophie, like I just don’t even know what’s happening.

CALLUM (looking around, curious)

Where do you think she is?

Kelsey (worried, slowly walks around the bushes and she hears something, and questions callum shocked.)

I don’t know… What was that?!

CALLUM (stands still, and has a blank reaction to kelsey’s question, and questions it)

.. What?

KELSEY (panicking, runs back over to callum with their torches)

What the HELL was that!

callum (looking around quickly to try and see what’s going on)

I don’t know. Don’t move.

 

3.EXT. LATER. CALLUM AND KELSEY ARE ROUTING ABOUT LOOKING FOR SOPHIE IN THE BUSHES. THEY HEAR A SCREAM COME FROM SOPHIE.     COURTNEY IS SAT IN A BUSH CRYING TO HERSELF.

 

callum (turns around to see courtney running off)

OH MY GOD. Courtney! Go back!

KELSEY (turns around quick to inspect the bush behind her)

Was that Sophie?!

CALLUM (joins kelsey to look for sophie after sorting courtney out)

What the hell! Where has she gone? Oh for god sake.

KELSEY (hears a faint whimper from a bush. walks over to open it to find courtney)

Oh my god, I can hear her crying.

CALLUM (walks over to kelsey, constatnly looking around the while area)

Oh god. She’s in that bush.

Something isn’t right here. It’s too weird.

KELSEY (confused and curious)

What is going on?

CALLUM (worried and beginning to be impatient whilst observing courtney. hears something, so gets up and goes to see what’s happening)

Right. She’s talking to herself.

 

What’s that?

 

Oh God. Hang on, just wait there.

KELSEY (stands in the middle of the area, looking concerned, and notices courtney has left the bush, but she can still hear her)

Is that Courtney?

 

…Courtney?

Weather

The weekend that I have scheduled to film is forecast blizzards. I am still going to film through the blizzard and take precaution of protecting the camera by making a tin foil cover, and plastic bags, to make sure it doesn't get wet, or damaged. I'm also going to have to film where and when the sun is shining, to make sure shots that are captured, can be seen through the snow, and not too dark and blurry.

I'm doing my script both partially planned and improvised. I think that doing my film this way, will add to the genre conventions of my film. It will add more suspense and build up realistic reactions within my actors, hopefully reflecting how the audience would also react during my film.

Audience

The audience I want to relate to my short film most are teenagers and young adults, though I think it may also appeal to adults, too. The purpose of choosing this audience is that it could be relatable.
